Itsaso Arrayago

Itsaso Arrayago is a MSCA fellow at Universitat Politécnica de Catalunya and the University of Sydney. She is a civil and structural engineer and earned her PhD in Construction Engineering in 2016. She has collaborated with different international research groups, including research stages at the University of Sydney (2015-2016, 2019-2021) and the Imperial College in London (2018).

She is currently working on the development of system-based direct design methods for steel and stainless steel structures based on system reliability for the Eurocode and US design frameworks, which will forge the new generation of design specifications. Her skills span across the areas of system reliability, advanced finite element analysis, high-end structural analysis software, material characterization of metallic materials, planning and execution of experimental programmes and development of design recommendations for structural codes.

She is member of the Working Group for EN 1993-1-14: Design assisted by finite element analysis and has actively contributed to the development of several design standards for stainless steel structures, including EN 1993-1-4, ASCE 8 and the Design Manual for Structural Stainless Steel.

She has co-supervised PhD and Master students and co-managed several European and national research projects. She also has inter-sectorial experience in bridge engineering after expending 10 months in a design office.
