Jesús Miguel Bairán

Dr. J.M. Bairán is Full Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. He teaches graduate and undergraduate subjects related to Reinforced and Prestressed Concrete Structures, Seismic Design of Structures and Nonlinear Analysis and Design of structures. His research focuses on development of nonlinear models of structures, performance-based design and assessment, shear and torsion in concrete structures and seismic design.

He has been involved and been PI in several competitive research and technology transfer projects related to structural technology, assessment and design of special structures, performance based-design, partially prestressing, as well as been consultant on projects related to seismic design of bridges, special buildings, structures in nuclear and wind towers.  He is member Member of fib TG 2.7 “Design under extreme loads / Seismic design and assessment” of the International Federation of Structural”,  ISO/TC98 WG 4 and 9 on accidental actions and seismic design, ACHE Comission 1 Design, Coordinator of WG 1/7 Fatigue and has collaborated in CEN TC250/SC2 working groups of Shear and Torsion and Fire in Eurocodes 2, and COST TU 1404 ” Standards for service-life of cement based materials and structure” . He participated in Design Spanish Code for Concrete Design and Seismic Design Code of Dominican Republic.  He is member of the Bank of Experts of the Spanish State Research Agency (AEI), Ministry of Science and Innovation.
