About the Programme
The members of STRUCTECH group are actively involved in teaching in the Master Programme in Structural and Construction Engineering at the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC-BarcelonaTech).
This challenging Master programme provides a solid education to students, addressing all the most recent challenges in Structural and Construction Engineering. The programme covers important topics, including mechanics of structures and advanced computational methods, advanced design, durability and technology of construction materials, construction processes and management of construction projects, environmental and socioeconomic impact of construction, safety, quality in construction, smart structures and sustainability in construction.
The learning environment is strongly influenced by the research and innovation activity of STRUCTECH group. The Master programme can also allow integration in PhD studies programmes with STRUCTECH.
The Master programme has received the International Master’s Programme distinction (2013 call) awarded by the Government of Catalonia’s Agency for the Management of University and Research Grants (AGAUR).
The prospective student will also have the chance to live an extraordinary experience in one of the most vibrant and multicultural city in the world, Barcelona.
Specific Skills
- Design structures, buildings and infrastructures that are durable, functional and aesthetically pleasing.
- Design structures using classical materials (e.g. reinforced and prestressed concrete, steel, masonry, timber) and new materials (e.g. compound materials, fibreglass, carbon fibre, stainless steel, aluminium, glass).
- Repair, restore or retrofit existing structures, including those of the historical and artistic built heritage.
- Produce mathematical models of engineering problems.
- Effectively manage design and construction, paying particular attention to technological and innovative aspects, such as sustainability.
- Apply scientific methodology.
- Create and innovate.
- Rigorous and critical work approach in a way that it is balanced with the socioeconomic reality of the field of construction.
Generic Skills
The soft skills established by the Master Programme are capacity for innovation, entrepreneurship, leadership, sustainability and social commitment, knowledge of English language, teamwork, communication, time management, capacity to develop independent work, proper use of information resources, among others.
