Juan Murcia-Delso is an Assistant Professor and Serra Húnter Fellow in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC). Prior to joining UPC, he was an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at Austin between 2016 and 2021. He received his MSc degree in civil engineering from UPC, a MSc in structural analysis of monuments and historical constructions from the University of Minho and UPC, and a Ph.D. in structural engineering from the University of California, San Diego.
Juan’s technical interests include the behavior and design of concrete structures, computational modeling of structures, earthquake engineering, assessment and retrofit of existing structures, and bridge engineering. He has been PI of several competitive research grants, and has conducted analytical and experimental research for a number of agencies including the California Department of Transportation, Texas Department of Transportation, and US National Institute of Standards and Technology. He has professional experience in Spain and the United States, and holds a professional engineer license in the State of California.
Juan is an active member of ACI 408 Committee – Bond and Development of Steel Reinforcement and fib Task Group 2.5 – Bond and Material Models, and he also contributed to the TU1406 COST Action – Quality Specifications for Roadway Bridges, Standardization at a European Level (BridgeSpec).
